During the pandemic we have all been involved with managing the gridline structure of things. Luckily during this time we were able to do a native planting in our yard with one thousand seedlings of fifty species. Since that time I have enjoyed watching it sprawl like a tangled mess of freeform growth. Somehow this has become a powerful inspiration for my current digital drawings, models, carved reliefs and encaustic painted surfaces.
These new works explore the possibilities of mixing new and old technologies. Each is designed and fabricated using new technologies. They are based on iPad drawings which are 3D modeled and carved with a CNC router machine. The ancient technique of encaustic (hot wax) painting is used over the wood reliefs.
